In Pictures: Safari at the Hoxton Bar & Kitchen

24 Mar

The internet can be a dangerously addictive thing. Happily browsing, replying to emails, watching cat videos on YouTube – its easy to get caught up, getting distracted from what you are supposed to be doing. That is exactly what happened to me on Thursday evening when I suddenly realised the hotly tipped five piece, described here earlier in the year as “a little summer disco heaven”, Safari, were due on stage in just 55 minutes.

So it was with more than a little surprise that I entered the back room of the Hoxton hang out 45 minutes later to find I was one of just a handful of attendees. Part of an exclusive group fortunate enough to be treated to a highly polished, energetic and captivating performance.

Having only previously heard the ludicrously catchy “Are We Ready”, Safari proved that definitley wasn’t a one-off, showing a varied half hour set of twin guitar lines, stabby synths and Foals-alike floor tom drum beats enriching the percussion.

Safari are a band well worth catching on their rise through the ranks and one that will go down very well in the summer sun of the festivals.
