Free Download: The West – “Wild Hearts”

The West

Not much is known about The West at the moment. You could, if you were so inclined, say they are a great unexplored territory and it is our manifest destiny to go out and discover more, expand our knowledge as they expand their fanbase.

Should you not be so inclined and favour something a little less steeped in American history and reliant on poor punage, we would say they are a band based out of California, are fronted by a couple of harmonious young ladies with a “few guys to balance out the mix” as well. We’d also note that they have been working on a five track EP and some more songs that they hope will turn into an album.

Background (such as it is) done with, let’s talk tunes. Well, tune to be exact as their Soundcloud currently has just “Wild Hearts” sitting proudly on it. Unashamedly bouncy and poppy, with light country undertones, it is a joyous tune, even if the subject matter is not. Within the light and smiley vocal, the kind that Sonja from Echobelly used to do so well way back when, are lyrics pertaining to financial hardship. At first listen you may find yourself distracted by what sounds like a confession of petty theft to keep going. It is easy to imagine then, our lead duo as some sort of 21st century Bonnie and Bonnie as they skip hand in hand, harmonising and wo-oh-oooh-ing along. That may just be us and regardless, they are singing ‘revelry’ not ‘robbery’. Still, it’s a fairly fun thought.

“Wild Hearts” is available as a free download below or from the band’s Soundcloud page.
