Listen: Lennox – “Whimsy”

18 Jun

It’s almost ironic really, having bemoaned the weather for not matching the bright and summery sounds of some recent posts, that just as the temperature is beginning to rise and the wind and rain has (mostly) abated, we turn to one of our new favourite purveyors of ice-cool melodies. We’d argue that it is to provide sonic refreshment from the warmth outside, but there’s little point. You didn’t come for weather chat after all (did you?).

Like gentle snowfall under the moonlit sky, the latest offering from New York’s Lennox is a soothing lullaby, hushed and beautiful. Featuring guest vocals from Eitan Akman (as well as being the first track recorded with new guitarist Daniel Hanley), “Whimsy” is a secret walk in the silence of the night, escaping the city and venturing out into the unseen mystical woodland worlds. The synth sounds dance and play amongst the trees as the brushed cymbal beat twinkle like fairies in the sky. You look around in wonder as imagination’s creations come alive and dance soundlessly before your eyes.

It’s a beautiful caressing of your mind that will take it far away from this world and is perfect for some midnight listening, curtains wide open with the world laid out in front of your window.
