Much like we confessed with Summer Heart the other week, Trails and Ways are one of those bands we’ve been listening to for a little while now, yet have never got round to writing about. Until now of course. Though actually, another confession, we have been meaning to write this for a couple of weeks now but real life has been getting in the way.
Now though we have made time and with good reason, it may be the final track from their recently released Trilingual EP, but “Tereza” is possibly the standout of the five. Starting with the gentle lapping of the ocean and some soft and echoey notes floating out across the shore, you could be forgiven for thinking it was time to disrobe for a massage. Then the indie bassline prods you back to reality, the drums usher you out into the sunshine and the guitar dances playfully amongst the haze on the street. The floaty, cloud like start has given way to something still soft but with more edges and substance. A marshmallow filled with popping candy or a daydream infiltrated by the noise outside perhaps. It’s lovely, lush and dreamy, mellow but just pointed enough in places to show the pained acceptance of our heroine as she realises and admits the end of the relationship was indeed her own fault, and for no good reason at all.
“Tereza” features on the new Trails and Ways EP, ‘Trilingual, which is out now and available on iTunes. You can also download “Tereza” for free from the player below.
