Listen: Ang Low – “Life Goes Down”

Ang Low

This debut track from Ang Low (Angelo Whitehead) has been kicking around for a few weeks now and while the backlog of artists, tracks, videos etc that we want to feature continues to mount up, we just had to come back to it. The simple, heartfelt beauty of “Life Goes Down” has hooked us in and we can’t help but keep playing it.

The Brooklyn based art student and composer has vocals that are soft and mesmeric like a single candle flame, dripping over a smooth and soulful pop-R’n’B soundtrack. The track is as fragile as a heart enraptured with love, so dependent on the reciprocated energy of another to exist and swell, unrequited and the heart will break. “Life Goes Down“ is full of sentiment and affections like ”you’re too perfect to be true”, but the song aches like the wait for a phone call after a fight, the regret of not having one last kiss. It’s gorgeous.

A quick Google shows that Whitehead has been writing for a little while now but for a debut effort, this is nothing short of stunning. We can’t wait to hear what comes next, especially as he has promised it will be a change of pace and a bit sexier.

“Life Goes Down” is out now and available on a pay what you like deal from Ang Low’s bandcamp page.
