It was just a few weeks ago that the divine Danish songstress MØ rocked our world with the bombastic skyscraper of a track that was the Diplo featuring ”XXX 88”. Now, as she gears up for the release of her Bikini Daze EP, she has returned to soothe our bruised bodies with the gorgeous, swoonsome ballad, “Never Wanna Know”.
As the cold weather looms large on the horizon, “Never Wanna Know” is a fireside seduction. New Lovers are drinking each other in like warm red wine, clinking glasses, eyes dancing with excitement as, outside, the song observes this new passion like an October wind, unwanted, uninvited and wanting to look away but unable to withdraw from this dagger like pain.
Where before MØ conveyed confidence and aggression, attitude and vigour she now gives us vulnerability and exposure, heartache and longing. It’s a beautiful track that, dare we say it, sounds a wee bit Christmassy with all the bell sounds and even (bear with us on this) feels a little like what would happen if Lana Del Rey covered “Stay Another Day” (how amazing would that be?) but with grace and beauty instead of all the overblown, fist clenching cheesiness of the original. Perhaps.
