Ang Low Can't Describe Her

Brooklyn art student Angelo Whitehead has been causing something of a stir as his musical alter ego, Ang Low of late. It’s fair to say the internet has had its collective heart melted and its legs turned to jelly by his souful crooning and deliciously smooth, pop infused R’n’B. But that was with his first track, ”Life Goes Down”, and when we blogged that, we did note he was promising something a little different, a little more sexy for the follow up, and “Can’t Describe Her” is just that.

A rapid synth opening that puts us in mind of the beginning Bon Jovi’s “Runaway” kicks us off, but thankfully that is the only essence of hair metal to be found anywhere near this sexing-up-the-dancefloor-tune. The sweet, crooning falsetto is still here, the kind that the likes of Maxwell and D’Angelo would have begged for when trying to sing a sexy young lady back to theirs for coffee. But this isn’t a saccharine and schmaltz, everything I do kind of love song. Oh no, this is a bit more lay-you-down-and-sex-you-up.

The keys move throughout like feet pounding the pavement, purposeful and focused while the electronics fuzz and purr around it. The beat is masculine, rhythmic like two hearts pounding together and quickening due to physical exertion (you know what we are getting at here right?). It’s much more sexual, the coyness of an evening getting to know someone is over, and this is a tale of what comes next, the confidence that comes with being totally caught up in the moment and of being with that special someone.

You might want to get a cold shower ready for when you’re done listening.

“Can’t Describe Her” is out now and available on a pay what you like deal from Ang Low’s bandcamp page.
