VVV Deaf - Thoughts

We though it only fitting that, with the Norwich Sound and Vision starting tomorrow, we today feature a band that provided one of our highlight moments from last year’s festival. This time last year we knew and really liked Vuvuvultures, then we met them and thought they were great people, and then we watched them perform live, and we fell in love with their sound even more. So much so that we even went in to gig promotion, just so we could see them perform live in Norwich once again.

Having put out their debut album, Push/Pull to much critical acclaim earlier this year, and the dystopian apocalypse single “Steel Bones” before that, the foursome are about to head out on a national headline tour (details below) in support of their next release, the double A-side single, “Your Thoughts Are A Plague / Deaf Epic”.

“Your Thoughts Are A Plague” got its live debut at last year’s Sound and Vision festival the crowd was instantly hooked by the foot-stomping bluesy sleaze of it. It’s an ominous sky of dark, turbulent clouds enveloping the Sun, devouring its light as vast, angry waves crash on the rocks below.

By contrast “Deaf Epic” is lighter, bouncier even. A day to the night of “Your Thoughts Are A Plague”. Well, for a while at least. It starts as a child skipping gleefully down a country path on a bright summer’s day, an idyllic scene like something from a Joyce Lankester Brisley story. But then a wrong turn and suddenly the trees are looming over menacingly, the undergrowth is rustling and fear is setting in. Think Grimm’s Fairy Tales meets Game of Thrones, which would probably make Vuvuvultures the White Walkers. We think they’d like that.

The double A-side “Your Thoughts Are A Plague / Deaf Epic” will be released on limited edition clear vinyl on 4 November.

‘Push/Pull’ is out now on Energy Snake Records / Cadiz can be bought digitally here and on vinyl and CD here.
