Blogathon: Alice Jemima – “Bloodsport (Raleigh Ritchie Cover)”

31 Jan

Alice Jemima Bloodsport

It’s been over half a year since we heard anything from Alice Jemima; having tipped her for greatness in 2013 she had a remarkably quiet year. Quiet in the ‘posting tracks online’ sense that is for she was out playing shows, supporting Valerie June and working behind the scenes on what will hopefully be something special for 2014.

Rejoice though for the girl with one of the sweetest, most perfect voices we’ve ever heard has returned with another cover version, this time of Raleigh Ritchie’s “Bloodsport”. Which itself is a new tune that has been getting a bit of attention in recent weeks. Alice says he is one of her favourite new artists which is why she decided to cover the song.

Frankly, she could have covered “Agadoo” for all we care, we’re just glad to have her back.

We’re only vaguely aware of the original but Alice has taken out the element of drama from within it and instead crafted a subtle and elegant ballad that plays gently like a dandelion clock on the breeze.

It really is fantastic to hear her once more and we hope this is just a precursor for some new original material as well.
