Blogathon: Premiere – Yumi Zouma – “Riquelme”

Yumi Zouma

So here we go with our very first post of our mammoth 24 hour sponsored Blogathon and boy are we going big first thing. The very lovely and wonderful people over at Cascine have kindly given us the premiere of the final track from the forthcoming Yumi Zouma EP, “Riquelme”, especially for Blogathon.

New Zealand friends, Charlie, Kim and Josh have already taken the blogging world by storm with many who have already heard their self-titled EP proclaiming it to be something very special indeed. We went a bit weak at the knees when we heard “Sålka Gets Her Hopes Up” and “Riquelme” is equally sublime.

The soft, elegant vibe of Yumi Zouma is a thing of beauty and here the subtle 80s nods they employ include a hint of Wendy and Lisa nuanced Gwen Stefani (which everyone knows is the best kind). “Riquelme” is a poignant soft focus look at relationships, all low lighting, candles and glasses of wine, tears and heartbreak.

Listening to Yumi Zouma is like drifting along on a deserted river, shoes off, a hat covering your eyes from the glorious sunshine and toes dipped in the water making barely a ripple as you pass by. Wildlife watches, undisturbed as you float calmly across gorgeous melodies and a cool caressing breeze of vocals brushes your face.

It sounds idyllic because it is, and we could very easily listen to it for the next 24 hours straight, but we have to crack on. You guys go for it though, for this is a thing of beauty and one we are very proud to be bringing you first.

Yumi Zouma’s debut EP is out 11 February via Cascine. The limited edtion 10” vinyl is sold out but you can still order the digital album here.
