Listen: Amberland – “Sunrise”

It’s been nearly two years since we featured London’s Amberland, fresh out of the box and raring to go. Since then there have been more gigs, at least one line-up change and recently, some new tunes. One of which is “Sunrise”, a soft languorous indie ballad that drifts and sways like a sapling in a breeze. Think Embrace but without the desperate attempt to make everything sound like an anthem.

Muted guitars and laid back vocals open the song in a tempo that is very mañana, so laid back and relaxed. There’s emotion bubbling under, gently peculating within the strings and harmonies, ready to chrysalis and birth drama. The magic of the transformation happens gradually at first until you realise that this glorious state of relaxation has been pricked, spiky and urgent guitar lines clash with strings that streak across the previously bright blue sky, dark lines breeding a flurry of hailstorm drums before, just like that, it’s over and the calm is restored.
