We’ve been here before, tipping an artist for big things on the basis of just one song. But, as before, what a song it is and, as before, we have every faith that this is not just a fleeting moment of pan flashing greatness and instead be the first taste of a musical feast.
T’was just a few weeks ago when Chløë Black wowed us and most of the blogging world with her intoxicatingly twisted and dark ode to the infamously gone but not forgotten stars who died too young. At the time of its release we said that ”“27 Club” is infused with touches of r&b and gospel, as well as [an] elegantly gothic and rich sound” and noted that it is a compelling and captivating tune.
Nothing has changed since we wrote that, if anything it sounds even better now than it did at the time. Its subject matter may be a tad macabre for some but to many, like the song itself, it is fascinating and glamorous. Time may tell if Chløë can live up to its promise, but we are more than confident she’ll soon be showing us that this was in fact, just the tip of the (very dark, warped and enthralling) iceberg.
