A mystery can be an exciting thing, adding intrigue and suspense to your day. A little secret here, a puzzle or piece of hush-hush information there, all can be thrilling and exhilarating. Unless you are writing about music and the artist has revealed absolutely nothing about themselves. In those circumstances, mysteries can be a pain in the arse.
Mind you, pains in the arse don’t normally sound as good as this debut track from the secretive Silk Cinema who is from Tamworth, Birmingham (ok, so we do know that much). The combination of soft electronic production, smooth R&B beats and silky (pun intended) vocals on “Hope” are sublime. The synths flash like neon lights, silhouetting the singer as she dances softly to the rhythm. It’s rather gorgeous and as an indicator of what is to come, she is setting the expectation and excitement level pretty darn high.
