Back at the end of 2014 we expressed our surprise that the fantastic Jagaara had not made more ‘tips for 2015’ type lists – they featured in ours. Today, a couple of days after sharing their forthcoming Record Store Day release online, we are expressing our surprise that “In The Dark” has not yet featured on more blogs or music sites.
Sure we know that music is subjective and all that but these three young ladies are crafting such wonderful swirls of monochromatic and atmospheric pop music that we struggle to see why more people aren’t fawning over them. They really should be.
“In The Dark’ starts with a gentle ripple of guitar and misty vocals before expanding, the wave of melody and instruments swelling as it builds and builds. Like an unstoppable but undetectable force it glides along, effortlessly, the arrangement intensifying, the layers of sound mounting upon each other as the tidal wave of emotion grows ever larger before crashing on the shore. The detritus, and assorted flotsam and jetsam of the past left strung out across the coastline as the water recedes, back to its mild ebb and flow.
“In The Dark” will be released as a limited edition 7” on Record Store Day.
