Stien Bovijn – “Summertime” (video)

Stien Bovijn

Here’s a delightful little something to brighten up your Friday. The weekend is about to start, the sun is (mostly) shining and it’s time to sit back, relax and just take a moment to enjoy life and feel good about everything around you. While doing so, we suggest you acquaint yourself with Belgian singer-songwriter Stien Bovijn and her infectiously upbeat and exuberant new song, “Summertime”.

It’s just so sunny and fun that you can’t help but feel a little brighter and lighter of step once you’ve heard it. Bovijn leads on the ukulele but there is an almost calypso vibe to it and a deliciously wobbly bassline that reminds us of the theme from Northern Exposure of all things (loved that show when we were younger).

We’d tell you all about her but everything we can find online is in Dutch and as anyone who has attempted to use Google Translate will tell you, it tries (bless it) but it’s not great. What we do know is that she has been writing and making music since she was 16 (she’s 20 now) and an earlier album ”combined a young fragile voice with some simple chords on a ukulele”.

All you really need to know is that in the video, there is a moment where a dog goes gambolling joyfully along a beach, and that is exactly how this song will make you feel. Enjoy.
