The last time we wrote about a song called “Forest Fires” we ended up revealing a bit more about ourselves than normal. That Lauren Aquilina tune really resonated with us and took us back to a particularly emotional period in our life. It was always going to be unlikely that Icelandic indie-folkster Axel Flóvent would elicit the same emotional response with his song of the same name, but unquestionably he has crafted something that is utterly gorgeous and poetic.
A delightfully elegant arrangement of guitar, piano, percussion and voice, “Forest Fires” is a misty dream of mellifluous melodies and soft, poignant vocals. It’s the kind of song that would be listened to by a rapt and silent audience, mesmerised by its graceful and expressive beauty. When it ends, there would be a moment, a heavy pause and an intake of breath from those bewitched audience members before hands would meet and appreciation would be loud and enthusiastic.
”Forest Fires” is the title track from Axel Flóvent’s forthcoming EP, due for release on 25 May.
