A Weekend At The Feelies

It’s fair to say that we’ve become quite big fans of Jordan Campbell’s languid new project, A Weekend At The Feelies, in recent months. Back in August, we brought you the
”echoey beauty of fragile synth highs and caressing bass lows” of “Lowly Buzzard” (which went on to get good support from Amazing Radio) and then his follow-up, the understated ray of arctic sunshine that was “Light”.

Last week he posted his latest track, “True North”, and it’s another gem. While it begins with a sparse and stark sounding beat, it soon gives way to the gentle melodies Campbell seems to be perfecting. Like those that have come before, it’s soft and calm, like a mountain lake at first light with not a ripple to be seen anywhere.

While aurally it is as delicate and soothing as his previous tracks, it is a lyrical hamster wheel, a lock in to all those poor life choices we make and feel compelled to live up to. The lyrics repeat and loop, four simple but elegant and meaningful lines spinning like the wheel on which we all run and struggle to jump from. There’s a subtle depth and profoundness to it that, if you stop and think about it, could make you reassess your life or turn to drink to wash away the pain. But it sounds gorgeous.

”True North” is available as a free download from the player below.”

A Weekend At The Feelies

At the beginning of the month we brought you the ”echoey beauty of fragile synth highs and caressing bass lows” of “Lowly Buzzard”; Jordan Campbell’s first offering as A Weekend At The Feelies. Now as the month draws to a close and summer starts to blend into autumn, we are able to share a new track, the equally languid and misty “Light”.

Soft percussion melts into a smooth and ethereal melody as Campbell’s vocals float in like distant smoke, all wispy and elusive. “Lowly Buzzard” was hardly urgent in tone or sound but “Light” has turned the dial down still further. This is stillness and serenity, a piece of absolute calm just as the light punches through the darkness as dawn breaks across the Arctic for the first time after months of winter. It is delightfully understated, delicate and subtle; it climbs gently, almost imperceptibly, upon you and soothing your mind and soul. It’s a track for late nights, when the world has gone to sleep and, ironically, all the light has gone.

”Light” is out now and available to download alongside “Lowly Buzzard” for the bargain price of £0. That’s right, they are both currently free from the A Weekend At The Feelies soundcloud page. You best get them now before they are all gone.
