Daisy Victoria – “Nobody Dies” (video)

15 Oct

Daisy Victoria

It may have a mere three months left to go but 2014 has already been a very good year for Daisy Victoria. Since we first featured her at the end of January (as part of Blogathon) she has gone from strength to strength and her profile has gone up and up and up. She’s had support and radio play from 6Music, Radio 1 and BBC Introducing, played Latitude and Norwich Sound and Vision Festivals, released her debut EP, Heart Full of Beef and is about to release the follow-up, Nobody Dies.

Steadily over recent months the blog world has woken up to her potential as well (hell, we love her so much we even went back and re-introduced her), and the title track from her new EP was premiered on Clash and the video (which you can watch below) via The 405. Also, she is legitimately lovely, humble and grateful for all the support she has been getting, both publically and privately. All of which makes us all the happier for the successes she has had and no doubt will continue to have in the future.

All of which brings us to the aforementioned title track from her new EP, “Nobody Dies”.

It’s less overtly dramatic than her previous offerings, showcasing a softer and altogether more swirlsome side of her musical personality. Keys peel like church bells and the rhythm tumbles as Daisy’s vocals and the melody combine in one great wispy marble of sound and colour. The accompanying video is suitably bright and kaleidoscopic, perfectly encapsulating the cascading and swoony nature of the track.

She’s also really good live and has a few London dates coming up (details below) in advance of the EP release in November.

Daisy Victoria live dates:
17th October – London, Hope and Anchor, Islington
28th October – London, Sebright Arms
31st October – Norwich, Epic Studios w/ Martha Wainwright
20th November – London, Dublin Castle

Listen: Empress Of – “Hat Trick”

8 Mar

Empress Of Hat Trick

Since joining the Alphabet family as our ‘E’ artist, the dreamsome Empress Of has gorged herself on watermelon and released her debut single. Now, as she prepares for the forthcoming release of her debut EP, Systems she has treated us to what sounds distinctly like her sexy side on new track, “Hat Trick”.

Just listen as she gets all sweet, sultry and breathy as Lorely sings, “Lay my cards on the table / Tell me my future / Tell me I’ll make it move”. See what we mean? Sexy. Wrapped around her seductive tones is an addictive track of swirling beauty that draws you in, Siren like, for play after play after play. Bookended by twinkling, almost shrill, synths the beat and melody swoon and sway along like cavorting partners, clinging to each other in the low light of a slow dance. It is a gloriously misty piece of electro-pop and one we can’t get enough of right now.

“Hat Trick” is taken from The Systems EP which will be released in the UK on 1 April via Double Denim Records and in the US on 2 April via Terrible Records.
