Listen: f y f e – “St Tropez”

25 Feb

Fyfe

Back in January we had an email from f y f e which introduced us to his debut song, “Solace”. We loved it but as is sometimes the case, time got away from us and we didn’t blog about it. On Friday we heard from him again, not via email this time but indirectly, on Soundcloud where he had posted his latest song, “St Tropez”. Again we loved it but this time we weren’t about to let it pass by without a comment or two.

We know very little about f y f e at the moment, he is 23, from London and has an EP due out in March. That’s it. We don’t even know, though we can presume, that “Solace” and “St Tropez” will be on it. What we do know is that he is good, very good, at making intriguing and quality leftfield pop music. “St Tropez” is awash with delicate vocals, sharp electro beats and burgeoning (but occasional) synthy horns.

It’s almost a shame the snow has stopped falling as, despite the title evoking images of sun-drenched beaches and bronzed holidaymakers; it is actually the kind of song you want to soundtrack a late night drive down country lanes, branches overhanging the road and big white flakes falling towards you in the glare of your headlights.

f y f e is definitely someone we will be keeping our ears out for and hopefully he will start to reveal a little more of himself (as he has begun to do in his cover art) with the release of the planned EP. For now, stream and enjoy “St Tropez” below.
