It’s always sad when one of our Alphabet Bands calls it a day. Pleasingly though there is often a resurrection of sorts with various phoenixes rising from the ashes. Polaroid85 became Meraki and Look, Stranger! became Flag of Japan (more on them soon). So it is with And the Giraffe who have now gone their separate ways but from whose remnants Nicholas Roberts has clambered out with a new solo project.
Taken from his forthcoming debut of the same name, “The Rest of Our Lives” sounds beautifully warm and welcoming with a smokey hue of the 70s seeping into its soul. The melody is soft and genteel with Jeni Valtinson providing gorgeous harmonies that help make this mellifluous tune feel like snuggling up in front of a log fire, an aural afghan draped over our shoulders.
It’s comfortable and self-assured and feels like the beginning of something. The road is open ahead of us as it beckons us along on this carefree ride of heavenly folky tune and we’re more than happy to jump onboard.
”The Rest of Our Lives” is out now and available from iTunes. Nicholas Roberts’ debut LP of the same name will be available on February 19, 2016.
This song makes me think of the 70s too, it’s lovely.
